There are a lot of personal relationships that take place in the town and they are focused around the school. The parents( worried about their children, Mrs.Bhaer trying out ways to disuade Dan from his bad habits and to keep Daisy cheerful by inventing for her different new games. The tantrums caused by the boys and Nan seem very real.

This story was also adapted to a film in 1934 and in 1940 and in 1998, as well for TV series and even an animated series for the Japanese television.
